The Cabaret arrived!
I'm not talking Liza Minelli. I'm talking about the brewed chocolate drink that was on Food Gawker almost two weeks ago. FedEx was kind enough to leave the wee box at my door around four today, and of course I had to test it out immediately. I was thinking of you! I was only thinking of you.
So I made it according to the directions (1 tsp to 4 oz of hot water. Drink, then wait half an hour to see how it affects you before trying any more.) It has a really interesting smell. It kind of smells like molasses, and tastes a little bit like it, too. It's not bitter, as I feared it would be, but it's a definitely *other* taste. If you've ever had Japanese sweets, it's different the way those are. You go in expecting a super sweet filled cookie, and you get sweetened adzuki beans. Not *bad*, just very different.
Because I was being decadent, after I took some pictures of it, and had some initial tastes, I added a smallish dollop of cream. If you're going to sin, you might as well sin boldly, right? It went nicely.
So, my half-hour is up and I'm going to take a nap. Apparently it refreshes and energizes some people, and it relaxes others... I must be one of the relaxers, and boy howdy am I relaxed. I'm just about asleep on my feet, so I'll go be asleep on the couch. I promise I'll post those pretty pictures later..

Hmm, you ARE going to save some of that for July 4th weekend, right? Right!? I'm curious to at least see the box. :)
and as for relaxing, I know what you mean. Every so often, if I drink a cup of coffee in the morning, or a soda for lunch, I get sleepy instead of awake. Not all the time, but often enough to notice. It's a nice relaxing sleepy, not a over-tired sleepy, so definitely something mood-enhanced. Drugs are weird! :) (and yes, I classify caffeine, ginsing, guarana, et al as a drug).
Of course, I'm saving it! :) I don't think I could drink it all in a week, anyway. Dorky tried it out, and he said 1) it tasted a little bit like chai and 2) it was pleasantly energizing, but only a little. :)
Caffeine can make me sleepy, so I suspect that's what it was... I'm not sure, though.
I tried it tonight. The taste honestly reminded me most of some mild honeyed tea. The honey taste was the most prevalent for me, something like buckwheat honey, a thick herby honey. Honey honey.
